NEW YORK – International soccer star Jozy Altidore will host a special autograph-signing/meet-and-greet session June 27 at Upper 90 Soccer in New York City to raise funds for the Jozy Altidore Foundation.
Altidore, one of the world’s top strikers playing for the United States Men’s National Team and Dutch professional club AZ Alkmaar, will be at Upper 90, New York’s premier soccer store located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for this rare appearance.
Altidore will be raising money for his foundation, which was started in 2011. The mission of the foundation is to help children across the world any way it can. The foundation fosters educational/recreational learning and excellence by working with communities near and far, athletes and educators to provide children with various avenues of growth and success beneficial for their future.
“This is definitely an event I’ve been looking forward to since we put it together,” Altidore said. “I love coming to New York City and having a chance to meet the fans is always something I enjoy doing since events like this don’t happen often.”
Persons interested in attending the event can bring items they’d like to have signed by Altidore or they can purchase an array of items available at Upper 90 to be autographed. There will be a recommended donation price for various items to be signed such as balls, jerseys, photos and cleats. All proceeds from the event will go toward the Jozy Altidore Foundation.
Altidore put together a record-setting campaign in the Netherlands this past season. He became the first American player to score 30 goals or more in a single European league season in soccer history, finishing with 31 goals in 40 matches across all competitions.
Perhaps his biggest goal of Altidore’s season came on May 9 when he recorded the game winner in a stunning 2-1 victory against heavily favored PSV Eindhoven in the KNVB Dutch Cup championship at De Kuip Stadion in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. It was the first Dutch Cup title since 1982 for the Cheese Farmers, who also earned an automatic berth in next season’s Europa League with the triumph.
Most recently, Altidore was at the top of his game, scoring in four consecutive matches – including three World Cup qualifying games – with the United States. Altidore recorded the game winner in Tuesday’s 1-0 victory against Honduras in a World Cup qualifier at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah.
All media outlets are invited to attend. Altidore will be available for interviews throughout the event. For more information about Upper 90 Soccer, please log on at www.u90soccer.com.
