TORONTO – Toronto FC striker Jozy Altidore and the Jozy Altidore Foundation made a $10,000 donation to The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) on May 26 at a special event.
Altidore’s donation will help fund and maintain the SickKids Rooftop Garden at the world-renowned children’s hospital for a two-year period. Altidore made the check presentation at SickKids, located at 555 University Avenue, Toronto, ON.
The rooftop garden is a unique area of the facility, serving as a relaxation space for patients and their families. SickKids believes in the value of play in its commitment to children’s health and development, and this space helps patients in their healing.
“Making this donation to SickKids for this project is so important to me and my foundation,” Altidore said. “It will help so many kids and their families who are going through such a difficult time. The rooftop garden is a special location that can generate happiness, positivity and a breath of fresh air for everyone that visits it.
Giving back to the Toronto-area community is something Altidore and his foundation have been looking to do since his arrival in January 2015 and felt this project in partnership with SickKids was the perfect starting point of many things to come.
“The Toronto and surrounding area communities are beyond important to me,” Altidore said. “Everyone has embraced me as one of their own since my arrival and I am beyond thrilled to be able to give back to such a caring, loving group of people.”

NEW YORK – Jozy Altidore will join clothing designer Kenneth Cole and international supermodel Adriana Lima to host a special event Tuesday, January 10 in New York.
Altidore, a standout striker playing for the United States Men’s National Team and Toronto FC of Major League Soccer, is partnering with Cole and Lima on another important St. Luke Foundation for Haiti fundraiser, which will be held at The Garage in the Hell’s Kitchen section of New York City across from Cole’s clothing-design headquarters. The event will honor Wilflo Fontus, supervisor of Social Services of the St. Luke Foundation. The night begins with two VIP receptions, the first starting at 5:30 p.m. EST, followed by the main celebration commencing at 6:30 p.m. EST at the Garage.
The event will highlight Fontus’ accomplishments with the St. Luke Foundation for Haiti foundation, as well as generate awareness, funding and display continued support of the successful organization.
“I am thrilled to partner with Adriana and Kenneth again for this wonderful night of celebration,” Altidore said, a son of Haitian immigrants. “We had a fantastic event and fundraiser last year that raised a lof of money for St. Luke and its important initiatives. So, having a chance to bring more awareness to Haiti and generate even more funding for St. Luke with Kenneth and Adriana is a true honor.”
On the field, Altidore had one of his best campaigns as a footballer this past year. The talented striker led Toronto FC to a berth in MLS Cup in 2016, where he and the team suffered a penalty-kick shootout loss to Seattle. It was Toronto FC’s best season – one that included it winning the Eastern Conference postseason crown – in its history, which was highlighted by Altidore’s tremendous form during the latter part of the regular season and postseason.
Recently, Altidore was honored with two major awards for his efforts. He picked up the United States Soccer and Futbol de Primera awards for player of the year, both of which he earned for the second time in his illustrious career. He currently sits alone in third place on the all-time U.S. list for goals scored (37) in 99 career appearances with the national team, which he has twice represented at the FIFA World Cup.
Altidore, who signed with MLS club Toronto FC in 2015 before a stint with Sunderland of the Barclays Premier League in England, is the only American player to score 30 goals or more in a single European league season in soccer history, finishing with 31 goals in 40 matches across all competitions with AZ Alkmaar during the 2012-2013 campaign.
